Canine and feline vertebral heart scoring – veterinary clinical video

A short video demonstrating how to perform a vertebral heart score for evaluating cardiac size in small animals. Vertebral heart scoring in canine and feline patients is one method of evaluating cardiac size. Determining the vertebral heart score involves measuring the size of the cardiac silhouette on a thoracic radiograph and comparing those measurements to the length of the thoracic vertebrae to obtain a numerical value. Normal ranges for vertebral heart scores in both dogs and cats have been determined, however normal breed variations are recognised.
