Carpus - dorsopalmer canine X-ray positioning guide

 

Positioning

  • Sternal recumbency
  • Support the head on foam pads and turn away from the affected limb
  • Extend the affected limb cranially
  • Ensure foot in true dorsopalmar position
  • Centre over the middle of the carpus
  • Collimate to include the carpus and toes
  • Ensure L/R marker in primary beam

 What to look for

  • Ensure foot and carpus are not rotated - each metacarpus should be clearly visualised

Top tips

  • Sometimes taping the foot down can help if the carpus keeps rotating.
